GOAL 1 -- Promote the development of healthy, creative, civically engaged individuals and families

Through counseling, case management, crisis intervention, mentoring, and coordination with community agencies and advocates, BLI helps individuals involved in critical transitions to strengthen life skills that enhance independence and increase their personal potential.

Objective A) Provide professional emergency services and crisis intervention not otherwise available for individuals, children and families.

  • Provide emergency financial assistance
  • Assist clients in securing or accessing appropriate health services
  • Provide interim emergency housing
  • Assist clients to obtain driver’s licenses
  • Link clients to lawyers, counselors, rehabilitation programs, the Ithaca Drug Court, and self-help groups
  • Initiate an effort to track the path of clients and coordinate measurement of progress

Objective B) Create new opportunities for individuals and families

  • Document intake forms for clients (individuals and families)
  • Develop client goals and objectives through individual treatment plans
  • Provide case management
  • Assist clients in finding appropriate housing
  • Assist clients with DSS, Section 8, and other financial assistance services
  • Assist clients with Vocational Rehabilitation and job training
  • Assist clients with appropriate job placement
  • Assist clients to obtain General Education Diplomas
  • Assist clients to enter community college and other educational institutions
  • Register clients at area food pantries and clothing sources
  • Link clients to The Learning Web, Science Center, Big Sister, Big Brother programs and other mentoring programs
